Over 11 years ago when Matt started working with Health Insurance we asked if would ITINs be considered as proof of residency for the Affordable Care Act. We had a lot of clients and friends with various documentation levels and our goal was to make sure that everyone had health insurance.

We had more taken away when the Dreamers were deemed ineligible in 2017. It has been a fight and struggle to improve health insurance access for immigrants.

Finally, on November 1st, 2023 we can begin enrolling people regardless of immigration status onto the Washington Healthplanfinder.  The rates are yet to be determined and we do not know if they will use an ITIN as a tool for the application. As more information becomes available, we will let you know. What we do know.

Enrollment will run from November 1st through January 15th. We have two offices,

When are Health and Medicare Enrollment Periods?

For over a decade, there have been Enrollment periods for Health Insurance. It doesn’t matter if it is a group plan or an individual plan. The following is for Individual plans.

When?

Medicare Annual Enrollment Period starts October 15th 2024 and ends December 7th 2024.

Health Insurance Open Enrollment ( WA State) starts November 1st 2024 and ends January 15th 2025.

Why do Enrollment Periods exist:

Enrollment periods for health insurance exist for a few reasons:

Planning: Insurance companies need to plan and budget for the coverage they provide. Enrollment periods help them estimate how many people they will need to cover, so they can allocate resources properly.

Fairness: Enrollment periods prevent people from signing up for insurance only when they need medical care. This helps ensure a balance in the risk pool and prevents costs from skyrocketing. We have requests throughout the year that are forced to wait until the following year because they delayed enrollment or let their coverage lapse.

Stability: Insurance markets need a stable pool of enrollees to spread the costs. Enrollment periods help avoid sudden changes in the insured population, which could lead to financial problems for insurers and higher premiums for everyone.

Remember that enrollment periods can vary depending on the type of insurance and certain life events may qualify for special enrollment periods outside of the standard ones. If you don’t have insurance, then we want to run the application to catch if you qualify for a special enrollment.

Programs such as Apple Health and Native American Health have year-round enrollments.

Medicare has it’s own rules three months before you turn 65 and three months after. This blog goes into the details as we have a lot of people scheduling early to talk with Suzie.

When do I sign up for Health Insurance?

If you don’t have health insurance for some people the answer is right now. We will do the enrollment and if you have a special enrollment then it will start quickly. If you do not qualify then you are ready for the next enrollment period.

Suzie and Matt McColm for six plus years ran the Enrollment Center located in Wenatchee. We felt that everyone should be able to understand their plan, get help year round if there was a problem and not add any additional fees. We kept those functions while we added Medicare, Car Insurance, Home Insurance and options for clients needing assistance.

Some folks work a job where health insurance has an enrollment period as dictated by the employer. It is usually a couple of weeks a year. If you are under 26 then you can still be included in your parents’ health insurance plan. However, there may be some cases that you are better off with your own plan. For example, if you are going to school in another state. Ask your Human Resources Department when their open enrollment is.

Special Enrollment is year round. In addition to folks with low income that qualify for Apple Health, Native American Health Enrollments are year round. There is also special Enrollments. Some of them are:

  1. Losing Health Insurance from a job.
  2. Getting married when one of you has health insurance.
  3. Moving and your health insurance plan is no longer in the network.
  4. Giving birth or adopting a child opens a special enrollment.
  5. Losing Apple Health or aging out of your parent’s plan opens a special enrollment.

These are just a few as we see some for emergencies. Also, a person making 250% of the poverty level that qualifies for Cascade Care Savings is able to enroll in the Special Enrollment. It is why we enroll everyone and if they don’t qualify then they are prepared for the next open enrollment.

Cascade Care Savings plans can have some additional savings to customers. It is an exciting program that Washington State has done to lower healthcare for thousands of us.

We are not Healthcare Authority employees nor do they contract with us for services. Here is a blog can can assist in simple questions for PEBB, SEBB, or other retirement health plans.

Starting November 1st, 2023, we will be enrolling people in health insurance regardless of immigration status. (Also called the 1332 Waiver) The details are still being worked out however if you do not have access to an employer plan then selecting an appointment today would be to your advantage.

Apple Health at Wenatchee Insurance

The Annual Enrollment Period for Medicare runs from October 15th through December 7th of Each year. If you have a Medicare Plan (aka none Healthplanfinder plan) then each year, you can review and update plans. Select an appointment early as.

The Health Insurance Open Enrollment Period runs November 1st through December 15th for plans starting January 1st.
The Health Insurance Open Enrollment Period from December 15th through January 15th is for plans starting February 1st.

The Wenatchee Office takes appointments for Health and Medicare Insurance.

If you want to make a comment about the 2024 individual health plans, then you usually can make statements through August. We encourage people to review the proposed rates.
